If this is true, it makes business sense for Google but at the risk of alienating the developer community. A good way of retaining the community's trust would be by making the production code open source.

Nice write up. Wave is quite versatile and has great potential, but it's untimely death is not a good news.

I read somewhere today that google perhaps learned nice lessons from wave functionality and it has already started implementing popular wave functionality in to docs/gmail etc. The article went on to say that it appears that decision to shut-down wave just 3 months after public launch in May 2010 smells other plans, perhaps to keep the competitors away from launching products that could be better than goog's products.

I don't know if that is the case but that what I read today......I will see if I can find the link!

I hope we are able to save the wave....may be some open source group can take over the google wave project and help it flourish further.

Thanks.

Nice post, Hemant. Had not thought of using wave in health context specifically. Like many, I experimented with Wave briefly and did not think of a use case. The problem is likely that we humans have failed to organize enough to produce that use case. So perhaps the wake-up call is that we should organize more and find common points of interest, on which to collaborate! How can we get started? I have some ideas.

I quite agree, the possibilities are endless. That is the promise but that is also the bane of Google Wave.
BTW, let us know you get a wave back from Lars.
His turn to tell us, "ain't no power in the 'verse that is gonna stop Wave" and "everything is shiny!"

The range of applications for the Wave platform is limited only by our imaginations. We are yet to find an existing use case (we've looked at CRM, financial services, contract management, organisation collaboration to name a few) and found huge benefits to everyone in the implementation of Wave.

Hope springs eternal.
